Snowy Trees
This is a quick-and-easy card made with Cornish Heritage Farms' Stamp of the Month for October, which is called The Pines. I embossed the image with white embossing powder on vellum, then ran it through my Xyron 500 Create-a-Sticker and adhered it to a panel of Heidi Grace Designs patterned paper. I added a few snowflakes from Jolee’s Boutique, matted everything in blue, and adhered the panel to a white card. Look for this stamp October 1st, and happy creating!

It's Stamp of the Month Time
Where in the world did September go? Seriously. Just a moment ago it was summer, now it's almost Christmas. Well, maybe not quite, but it's starting to feel that way. I *DO* know that it's almost October, and almost time for the release of Cornish Heritage Farms' Stamp of the Month, which is The Pines. This is such a pretty image - I was raised in the mountains of PA, and just love the huge old pine trees beautifying the landscape up there. For my card today, I chose to make a holiday card from the image, but really, this stamp is very versatile - no need to think "Christmas." I think it would be especially wonderful in creating a stamped scene, or for a masculine birthday, a sympathy card.... anything, really. I'm just itchin' to make holiday things, LOL!
I started by embossing The Pines image with Ranger Distress Embossing Powder in Peeled Paint. This stuff is so cool.... if you've never used it, I can tell you that it does NOT leave a glossy finish, but rather a roughed up, matte finish. Perfect for a tree, I think :). I cut out the image with my Nestabilities Labels Four dies. The background paper is from the Basic Grey Wassail line, and I stamped the Fir Branch image from CHF to continue the piney theme. I used mica flake glitter to edge the panel and give it a frosty feel. (Just place your panel on a non-stick mat, go around the edge with a nice thick craft glue, and liberally shake on the flakes. Press them in just a little, to make sure lots sink into the glue, but don't press so hard that you squish all the glue off the paper.) For the sentiment, I just punched out the stamped words (from Christmas Expressions) with a circle punch, added a mat, attached a little clip to the top, and tied on the bow to make it look sorta kinda like an ornament. Nothing too complicated. If you'd like more details, you can check out my supply list below. :)
Hope you're having a great weekend!

Reach for the Stars
Just a quick little post today, while I'm still on vacation. I made this card for the "Stars" challenge over at Gingersnap Creations. All of the images are from the "Reach 4 the Stars" set from The Rummage Bin line at Cornish Heritage Farms. I just LOVE this quote by Galileo - so beautiful. I used some Graphic 45 patterned paper and some star brads, and it all came together quite quickly.
Hope you're having a great week!

It's A Bling Thing
First off, I wanted to let you know that I'll be on vacation for the next week.... we're shuffling off to Buffalo and to Pennsylvania Amish country to visit with family. I'm also hoping to sneak in a visit to a Buffalo stamp store, keep your fingers crossed!
I have a card for you that I posted over at Gingersnap Creations for one of their current challenges, which is to use bling. The theme for the month is Movie Stars, and the current color challenge is black, white, and silver, so this card actually fits them all, LOL! I used Best Occasions rhinestones (Wal-Mart), a vintage "diamond" button, and The Paper Company metallic gunmetal paper as my bling. I also used some Kaiser rubons, a Stampin' Up! sentiment, the Nestabilities Labels Four die, SU! Very Vanilla cardstock, PTI vellum, vintage ribbon to make the flower, and a free photo from web.
Go on over to Gingersnap Creations and check out their challenges - there's lots of time to play along, and.... blog candy, too!
Have a wonderful week!

CHF's Bracket Block
I just love, love, love Cornish Heritage Farms' new Scrapblock, called "Bracket Block," which is being released Friday. I have always been addicted to this general shape, a square that is totally curvaceous :). You've probably seen this same general shape in punches, papers, and dies (Nesties Labels One is similar, but smaller). I was so excited to see this 6x6 inch stamp version in my CHF box!
There are, of course, endless possibilities for this stamp - what immediately came to mind was a journal box for 12x12 scrapbooking. But I want to show you something different, an idea that I got from THIS POST by Ali Manning on Gingersnap Creations. She urged us to get out those gorgeous patterned papers (that I tend to hoard, LOL!), and use them as the star of the show on a card. Well, I've been hoarding this bluebird paper, "Verdot," from Basic Grey's Periphery line for, um, well, a while. This card came together VERY quickly. I inked up the edges of the stamp, but left the journaling lines in the center uninked. I didn't stress over this... you can see that there are parts of the lines showing up in the corners, but that's okay, in fact, it fits in well with this type of collage-look paper. I stamped over the area of the patterned paper that I wanted to feature (I'll give you a tip on this in a little bit). I also stamped the shape onto coordinating cardstock, then cut out both images and adhered them together to give the patterned paper front more stability. For the actual card, I cut a 4.25 inch square card out of the same cardstock, and adhered the Bracket image to the front. Then it was time to have fun with embellishments! I chose some Basic Grey paper flowers, some Prima flowers (including the "centers" of the blue paper flowers), one of those great velvet-look leaves from Making Memories Vintage Findings, and some rhinestone bling. I also stamped a sentiment from The Homestead (Scene It! line from CHF) in the upper corner. Done - easy peasy!
So, how do you make sure you'll like what you see after you stamp your precious patterned paper? Here's what I did. I stamped the Bracket Block onto a piece of scrap cardstock (you can see I didn't do a great job, LOL, but that's okay, as long as you get the general outline!). Cut it out along the outside edge, then cut out the inside along the inner border, removing the journaling lines. This will give you a window, which you can use to eye up where you'd like to stamp your patterned paper. The first pic shows how I did that with my bluebirds.
Here are some other possi- bilities that I con- sidered. A gorgeous K and Co. paper from the Blue Awning collection.
Here's some pretty butterfly paper from My Mind's Eye. You can see that by making the template, you'll be able to tell if the area of the design you are interested in will fit nicely into your Bracket, or whether it's too close to the side, or includes something funky that you don't want. Be sure to keep your template! You can slip it in the bag with the stamp so that you'll always have it ready to go.
Thanks for visiting, and have fun using those fabulous papers!

Vintage Sewing Card
One last card before the debut of Sew Special (The Rummage Bin line) tomorrow at Cornish Heritage Farms. This one uses a wonderful vintage sewing machine image from Sew Special, along with a journaling box/label stamp from On The Desk. Some Graphics 45 papers, vintage buttons tied with twine, and a fun measuring tape twill ribbon (from JoAnne's) finish this off.
Tomorrow I'll give you a look at a new Scrapblock... there's a peek on the Cornish Heritage Farms website already, on the intro page. :) Have a wonderful day!

Another Cornish Heritage Farms Peek
Yes, the new Rummage Bin set from Cornish Heritage Farms is all about sewing! Sew Special will be released this coming Tuesday, and if you sew or knit, or know anyone who does, you'll love this set. My mom is a quilter, so I am especially excited to make her lots of cards with this set! I combined images from Sew Special with the Stitches Scrapblock... a natural pairing, don't you think? ;) Heat embossing with the Stitches Scrapblock makes an especially nice, textural background. I used one of the great embossing powders from Zing! (got them at Archiver's) - so many fun colors that I haven't seen anywhere else (this one is called "Powder," and it's pale blue, but hard to tell in the photo).
Hope you're having a great start to the weekend!

Movie Star Month at Gingersnap Creations and a Blog Candy Alert
The theme this month at Gingersnap Creations is "Movie Stars." This was a fun one... putting together a pirate-themed card around a pic of my favorite hunk, Orlando Bloom, a.k.a. Will Turner from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Oh, how the whole family loves these movies... this card will probably go to one of my kids!
I didn't have any stamps of movie stars... you know, those elegant Audrey Hepburn stamps, the Marilyn, the fun Charlie Chaplan. So I winged it with a Will Turner scan from my Pirates calendar (got it from the kids this past Christmas), and some pirate-themed stamping. The map is from Tin Can Mail, the pirate flag from Inkadinkado, the ship from Anita's, and the text from Stampington. The paper with the "Dead Men Tell No Tales" is a Karen Foster design. I added some "treasure" coins from Oriental Trading Co., a vintage rusty key (Davy Jones locker, anyone?), and some suede cord. So you see, no special movie star stamps are required. You can create a project based on your favorite movie, if you'd like. And.....
The Gingersnap Creations Blog has Blog Candy!
Stampsmith has generously provided the prize of a fabulous unmounted single stamp for each challenge announced in September. To qualify for a chance to win, all you have to do is participate in the challenge by posting your creation to your blog or online gallery, mention the specific challenge (and if possible link to it), and then go to Gingersnap Creations and comment on the challenge post with a permanent link to your creation (i.e., a link to your specific post not just to your blog). TMTA Architecture
It's been a while since I've participated in an ATC challenge, so since this is a lazy holiday Monday, I thought it was time. I made this ATC for the Think Monday, Think ATC challenge, which is architecture. The Venezia and Di Vinci stamps are from Stampington, the Corinthian column from Inkadinkado, and the Timeless from JustRite. I used a bunch of Distress Inks and StazOn on glossy, matte, and metallic papers for the backgrounds. The writing is on a blank page from a vintage textbook. Thanks for looking!

A Wintery Sneak Peek
A little sneak peek at the new Kim Hughes stamp set called "Winter Trees," which is being released next week at Cornish Heritage Farms. Besides your classic vintage, I love the look of primitive rustic, especially for Christmas and Halloween. So I just had to give this a go (a little bit out of my box, but not too far!). I built this little scene, and then started distressing the poor thing like there was no tomorrow, LOL!! AND.... this is my very first dip into SEWING on a card! Yippee, but it's fun!!
I put the tree and the snowman on my acrylic block and stamped them twice - once on kraft, and once on distressed white pattered paper. I did this so that I could use the white images to cut along a ground line, around the snowman, and through the tree, and still make sure it all fit together on the kraft background. I then went to work paper piecing the various elements. For the snowman's scarf and for the red background patterned paper, I stamped the Houndstooth Backgrounder in red ink on kraft and on red paper, respectively. I stamped the partridge separately, and colored him with Copics. I finished the scene by stamping the snowflakes in white and adding some Stickles for sparkle.
Now, you may be wondering about that sentiment.... that's another sneak peek, from a new set called Friendly Kritters Scripture, and it is also due out next week. I stamped it, tore it, distressed it, and glued it onto a similarly battered grungeboard heart. A little bit of rustic and sparkly fibers finishes it off.
Well, now it's time for my long list of supplies, just in case something strikes your fancy - have a great Friday!

Sanded Thank You
Over at SCS today, Julia's Ways To Use It Challenge is "Sand It!" I've been wanting to try this, plus a few other goodies, so I jumped in. Here's what I did....
I took a piece of Basic Grey patterned paper from the Wassail line - it's the distressed brown that's on the reverse side of the "tree lot" 12x12 paper (*gasp*, I know, turning the pretty side around!) or it's a single in the 6x6 pad. I ran a panel through the Cuttlebug with the Script embossing folder. Then, I sanded gently with some fine grit sandpaper, until the script was mostly white. Blow off all the dust, LOL!!
I then sprayed this panel with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Antique Brass. Boy, I have trouble using this stuff.... just don't have the hang of it yet, but I liked the effect I got with this piece (see detail), and so ... onwards!
I stamped the image and sentiment from Cornish Heritage Farms' "On the Desk" set from The Rummage Bin line in Versafine ink in Vintage Sepia, and cut them out. The next nifty little product I used was The Paper Company's Metallic Cover paper in "Amber," which I got at Michael's. LOVE the shimmery shine of these metallic papers!! I cut panels to surround the images, the background, etc. You can see how I put it all together. A rather clean and simple look, it's just that the background took some fussing.
Hop on over to the gallery and see what everyone's been sanding up!
